Terra Firma’s 27.2 MW solar project for NCP Chlorchem, one of South Africa’s largest private industrial solar installations, demonstrates what it means to power industry with Better Energy. Our new video gives you a glimpse into the story behind the project.
Commercial and industrial solar and battery storage projects continue to roll out at pace across South Africa and the region. According to the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRES), around 5.6 gigawatts of C&I embedded generation capacity had been installed in South Africa by January 2026. At Terra Firma, we’re seeing this momentum […]
For South African businesses, energy has changed from an expense line item to a strategic variable that affects cost, risk and long-term competitiveness. With further tariff increases, time-of-use (ToU) pricing, and new energy supply options entering the SA market, companies are under increasing pressure to get their energy strategy right. They already understand the need […]
In this blog post, we explore how Battery Energy Storage Systems are now being used for energy arbitrage, how they support and stabilise a renewable-heavy grid, their use in off-grid or weak-grid locations, and the key barriers that still need to be addressed.
Africa was the fastest-growing solar region globally in 2025. That is one of the headline findings from the AFSIA Africa Solar Outlook 2026 report, which tracks installed capacity, cost trends and market growth across the continent. In this blog post, we unpack key takeaways from the AFSIA report and what they mean for commercial and […]
Distributed or onsite renewable energy generation – commercial and industrial systems installed at factories, mines and other large energy users – has become the quiet workhorse of South Africa’s energy transition. These projects power businesses directly, reduce exposure to rising electricity tariffs, take pressure off the grid, and cut reliance on diesel and coal. They […]
In this blog post, we explore how Battery Energy Storage Systems are now being used for energy arbitrage, how they support and stabilise a renewable-heavy grid, their use in off-grid or weak-grid locations, and the key barriers that still need to be addressed.
Having access to clean drinking water is something many of us take for granted. Yet, before it reaches our taps, our water goes through intensive treatment processes to ensure it’s safe to consume.
For South Africa’s leading businesses, building resilience into their energy supply has become essential. This is especially true for MTN, Africa’s largest telecoms provider, whose Johannesburg headquarters must operate reliably around the clock.
Across Africa, commercial and industrial (C&I) businesses are investing in renewable power at an unprecedented scale.
Commercial and industrial solar may seem straightforward from the outside, but for large facilities with complex operations, on-site generation comes with layers of engineering, regulatory and operational nuance.
Some solar projects have impacts that reach far beyond the site they power. Terra Firma’s solar project for the Johannesburg plant of Maxion Wheels, the world’s leading wheels manufacturer, is an excellent example.
